Upgrades
Rob Marshall - MVP
Just finished the process of upgrading a Central SMS2003 (SQL2000) Site server to ConfigMgr 2007 (SQL 2005) ... I've never stared so intently at a wizard as it plodded through its tasks in all my life ... was dreading a failure occuring, that'd require a rollback taking several hours of work...

Moniitor your ConfigMgr\SMS2003 Backups via a report
Rob Marshall - MVP
Essentially I wanted to know what sites haven't backed up within a given date range (a day and a half since last backup), and those that have never backed up (never reported a backup). Groovy stuff, not so easy to determine though, or so it would seem, unless you fall back entirely onto the Status...

SMS2003 - Service accounts being used
Rob Marshall - MVP
I wrote this a fair few years ago, it's for those environments still running SMS2003 who opted to use Normal Security (Service Accounts, harking back to SMS 2.0 here!) instead of using Advanced Security (computer accounts). The script, all it does is pump out what Service Accounts are in use on...

SMS2003 support (almost) comes to an end ... Come on, time to upgrade!
Rob Marshall - MVP
Bless her cotton socks, good old SMS2003 moves out of mainstream support at the end of January 12th of Jan 2010, and it's site on the microsoft domain has had a refresh and has now become more of a portal to assist in migrating from SMS2003 to ConfigMgr. This doesn't mean it is no longer supported...

SMS2003 - How to easily create reports - For reporting first-timers and the like
Rob Marshall - MVP
I was pondering (like you do) how accessible report creation is in SMS2003. It requires a few skills to be under-your-belt (SQL, SQL tools, areas in SMS) before you can master this subject enough to produce quality reports. And, well I was taught (back when I was a padawan, I eventually killed my...

SMS2003, creating an Advertisement with a single assignment
Rob Marshall - MVP
A collegue of mine spent hours researching how to create a simple advertisement assignment. He was using the SDK in VBScript and was frustrated at the lack of easy-to-digest information out there. He'd arrived at MSDN, Technet, poured over the SMS2003 SDK help file and even googled around. He almost...

SMS2003: Script to change SDK Site Control File Delta on remote SMS Site server

Folks, Wrote another little VBScript , this one to change the SDK Site Control File delta value on a remote SMS Site server. This script affects the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\COMPONENTS\SMS_SITE_CONTROL_MANAGER\Sites section of the Registry on the remote SMS Site server. I'd...

Failure to install SMS2003 Management Point
Rob Marshall - MVP
Ok finally figured out the solution to a problem with installing MP's that's been bugging me the last couple of days. Essentially It revolves around the SMS2003 Advanced Client not behaving itself. I've got a couple of SMS2003 RTM sites that have problems reinstalling their MP. The MP...
