Let's start by getting the name right...

There seems to be a lot of confusion over the proper acronyms/ abbreviations for Microsoft's System Center products (for example "SCCM" for  "System Center Configuration Manager").

So just to make sure we're all singing off the same song sheet below is the OFFICIAL list of acronyms/ abbreviations for the System Center family:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager—MOM
  • Microsoft System Center Capacity Planner—SCCP
  • Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager—ConfigMgr
  • Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager—SCDPM
  • Microsoft System Center Essentials—SCE
  • Microsoft System Center Operations Manager—OpsMgr
  • Microsoft System Center Reporting Manager—SCRM
  • Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager—SCVMM
  • Microsoft Systems Management Server—SMS

The trick is now to get everyone into the habit of using them...

people still seem to use both acronyms, SCCM and ConfigMgr. It makes surfacing info on the web a tad difficult :<

Remember we couldn't search for "SMS" without bringing up telecoms and other non-related material? "operations manager" is just as difficult to search on. I guess with "operations manager", at least the search results reside in the systems managment realm!
