[Events] SQL User Groups meetings - BI (Reading), DBA/Dev (Leeds/Manchester/Edinburgh)
Only too happy to help out my old friend Tony publicise his SQL User Group meetings:
Reading (15th Jan) - Business Intelligence; Leeds (28th Jan) - What's new for DBA's in SQL 2008; Edinburgh (29th Jan) - Upgrading to SQL 2008 and Resource Governor; Manchester (5th Feb) - Agenda TBC.
Come and join other SQL professionals at a user group event; they are a great opportunity to a) expand your knowledge, b) get an answer to a problem, c) meet other like minded SQL professionals and d) looks good on your CV.
Also, come and present - give a "Nugget" which is a simple tip or a 5 minute short demo/talk on some aspect of interest to SQL professionals - it's a great way to start presenting and it's also great exposure when you are searching around for that new job or promotion within your own company.
All the agendas and details are on http://sqlserverfaq.com but here are some abstracts:
15th Jan (Reading) - Business Intelligence
http://sqlserverfaq.com?eid=139
Using BI in a practical sense; Allan Mitchell looks at Data Mining and Time Predictions; Chris Webb shows us how to use SSIS, SSAS & SSRS to build a monitoring system for SSIS, SSAS & SSRS. Come and join UK SQL experts and your peers in this ever popular and growing networking and knowledge sharing
28th Jan (Leeds) - DBA
http://sqlserverfaq.com?eid=146
There are many great new features in SQL Server 2008. In this presentation Martin will demonstrate some of his favourite features that will be of interest to DBA including the new Auditing feature, Transparent Data Encryption, Change Data Capture, Resource Governor, Compression features, Performance
29th Jan (Edinburgh) - Upgrade
http://sqlserverfaq.com?eid=145
Upgrading to SQL Server 2008, Resource Governor, Multiple short demos and Networking - the Edinburgh SQL User Group has it all - come and join us for this great opportunity to expand your knowledge and work network.
5th Feb (Manchester) - New Venue!
http://sqlserverfaq.com?eid=147
The usual SQL nuggets and hints and tips; the meeting will also probably have a developer slant to it - more info next week.
