Network Discovery Not Working – actually it is !
Had a problem from one of the sites I support, they said Network Discovery was not working, it was not discovery everything..
So straight way jump in the log files to try and find out why, all looks OK in there…
After a few minutes talking to the site about the problem it became clear.
Remember there is more than one type of discovery, three in fact
Topology: Determines the topology of your network only, discovering IP subnets and routers. The extent of how much of your network is discovered will depend on the number of router hops selected on the SNMP tab – This is the default option, this is what the site had set.
Topology and client: Determines the topology of your network, as well as potential client computers using an IP address. If a Microsoft DHCP server is specified on the DHCP tab, potential clients leasing an IP address from that DHCP server will be included here.
Topology, client, and client operating system: Determines the topology of your network, as well as potential client computers and their operating systems and versions. – This is what they should have selected.
So remember the resolution is often more obvious than you think..
