Hi All,this week update is quite a happy ending, but a terrible beginning...Basically, last sunday, when i tried to boot up my laptop it didn't boot..Windows 8 was never finished loading...I new what was going on, but i tried to fix the hard drive using chkdsk, format, etc..., but no luck, it was dead...i had to buy a new one and I did...while I was trying to backup my old data...i did something "stupid"...i had 3 1TB drives attached, 2 for backup and 1 to be formatted...while i was doing the diskpart stuff, i, of course, selected the wrong disk and "CLEAN"...when i realise the mistake, was too late..i had lost all my backup data...:(:(:(...when I told my wife, she was really upset she also uses that disk to keep our videos/pictures, but she is too polite to use bad words...if it was me I can image myself using F, C and W words...anyway...I tried to use DART, but it didn't help and when i was searching over the net and found the TestDisk Data Recovery software (http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk)...a really good software..it scan every single sector of the disk (or partition) and recover the data... unfortunately it dind't do a good job with Word/Excel files, but it is doing an amazing job with Pictures...so far i recover almost 50000 (YES!!! 50 thousands pictures)...and after initial analysing using powershell to find duplicated hash, and small image size (anything smaller than VGA size), i also used DupDetector (http://www.prismaticsoftware.com/dupdetector/dupdetector.html) to detect and delete duplicated files...Most impressive things..they are free and works...Anyway...i'm still restoring data as I ran out of space couple of times when restoring data...and couple of days ago, Microsoft released the Windows 8 RC (or RP for release preview), and I had to install...so far, I installed Windows 8 and basic software (like Office, Skype, etc...) and will try to finish it next week on UK Holiday (yes!!! monday and tuesday holiday :))
What a nightmare, so glad you got the pictures back!
