Reclaim diskspace when deleting updates from Update Package.

SCCM 2007: Reclaiming disk space is of course important when you want to remove Expired Updates from a Update Package.

Deleting Updates from Update Package does not appear to remove the actual update files from the source directory, the wizard even allows you to update the Distribution Points which has no effect on the actual contents.

Workaround:
1. Delete Updates from the Deployment Package in the console, un-tick Update Distribution Points when asked.
2. Move all the individual update directories (Named with GUIDS) from the source directory to another location for safekeeping.
3. Select all the Updates left in the package and right click “Content Refresh”. (MMC might crash if there are more than 500, then just select 100 at a time)
4. Wait for the wizard to finish and for the Update directories to be re-created.
5. Right Click the Distribution Point folder in the package in console and select “Update Distribution Points”
6. Verify the deleted updates have been removed from the Distribution Points (this will take some time).
