Microsoft Unified Device Management in 3 minutes!

I recently entered the Microsoft TechEd Challenge competition organised by the Microsoft UK TechNet team and the challenge was to produce a video of around 3 minutes which was innovative and demonstrated a deep technical knowledge of a particular area. This was split into 4 categories – Cloud Ninja & Rackman, Dr Desktop,  Captain Code and Kick-ass Female. I entered the below video into the Dr Desktop category and I’m pleased to say that I won!

The prize for the competition was a trip to TechEd Europe in Barcelona so I’ll be there and plan on sharing my findings with WMUG.

The technical part of the video is only 3 minutes long so don’t expect to be a genius by the end of it but it should give you some guidance on the tasks you need to complete in order to combine Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager and Windows Intune to expand Configuration Manager functionality into your non-domain joined or mobile devices. This was all based on a free trial of Intune, free Intune Support tool (trial only) for windows phone, free Apple certificate for iOS (android doesn’t need one) and you could use a trial version of Configuration Manager however I have a licenced copy for my lab. There are obviously some costs involved when installing this into production but to give it a try is completely free, open to 25 users, 5 devices per user and lasts 30 days (I’ve heard of longer trials though!).

If you want more detailed information on anything mentioned in this video then feel free to drop me a line peter @ or tweet @wmug or @PeterEgerton. To get you started though you can find some useful information here:

AND FINALLY and huge thanks to the TechNet UK team for running this competition and I look forward to seeing what TechEd Europe has to offer.
