    SSD Drives - 800M bytes/second sustained throughput

Have you every heard a hard drive die? Click, Clunk … soon those days will be just mere memories! those clever boffins out there have begun turning out Solid State (hard) Drives (SDD) that can operate at far faster speed, and in more harsh environments than our tradition spin and read drives. These little puppies are going to phase out our existing approach to building drives just like many other storage solutions...

    Are You Left handed?

Brilliant article on Wikipedia about left-handed peeps. Really brings it home how left-handed people where persecuted by the right-handed throughout our documented history, and how (yes you guessed it, i’m a lefty!) we fit in to todays age. The article goes in to some real good detail on the subject, summed up as Left handed = visual simultaneous, Right handed = linear sequential. Left handed folk can absorb far more...

    Classic Computing

Doug Engelbart demonstrating stuff that we now take for granted … On December 9, 1968, Douglas C. Engelbart and the group of 17 researchers working with him in the Augmentation Research Center at Stanford Research Institute in Menlo Park, CA, presented a 90-minute live public demonstration of the online system, NLS, they had been working on since 1962. SMS2003 Service Pack 3

Thought i’d throw together an overview of SP3. It’s what i’ve found since playing with it, and certainly isn’t meant to detail every aspect of the Service Pack or go in to detail on how to use the new reports that comprise Asset Intelligence. I hear that Wally Mead is lining up to make a blogcast covering SP3 (I think Rod Trent at MyITForum mentioned it), cannot wait as his blogcasts are always high quality and very...

    IT Idiots

Was talking to Nicky Curtis about a short term contract, whether the work could be done in a handful of days or not, when the conversation shifted towards “community”. And what a suprise, he’s been running a website called IT Idiots that provides free-training blogcasts and other stuff. Check it out :-)

Well I found something funny in the documentation ... If you download SMS2003 SP3 and check out the documentation, click the Release Notes and .... SMS 2003 SP1 release notes are displayed!!! Doh!

    MMS UK - WMUG Meeting

First of all a BIG thank you to all those that attended our post-MMS-UK-conference WMUG meeting! This was effectively our first meet with like-minded, and interested people. And it was a real pleasure speaking to you, gathering your thoughts and advice on what you want from a UK-based Systems Management user community. Also a not-much-smaller thank you to Eileen Brown at Technet UK for organising the room, as well...
