I've been trailing behind on my blogging recently, mostly due to our hosts stretching out this site move with delay after delay after delay. We've had to put the entire site on hold, blogging, event announcements etc for almost a month due to the way this has been handled. We've published a few blog entries here and there, but all we can do is offer our apologies and announce that we are literally one day away (hopefully) from completing the relocation.

Good news for us all here at WMUG, bit of a relief really!

We sure have been busy lately, with a virtual and physical meeting taking place ... and now our next event is finally confirmed.

Wally Mead is back at WMUG!

Come and join WMUG for the Systems Management event of the year. For the second consecutive year WMUG are proud to present Wally Mead, Senior Program Manager for System Center Configuration Manager who will be spending the day with us presenting the following topics on the historic World War II battle cruiser HMS Belfast moored on the River Thames in London.

Great event, thanks all that attended and thanks to Andrew Driver for presenting on Windows 7 and Johan Arwidmark for presenting on MDT.

Went really well, we had a great turn out and hopefully everyone got something from the event, be it free pizza, chance to meet other like-minded folk, or just plain old knowledge!

Talking of SWAG Andrew Driver has volunteered to put his Porsche up for the raffle at his next event, definitely worth coming along for that eh! (obviously he hasn't, so don't get all legal on my ass and demand a Porsche please, as us System Center admin's can't afford to give you one!)

Can't wait for the next event. Talking of which, please email me if you are interested in a pure Windows 7 with a Management skew event again at Cardinal place. If we can get 15 of you interested we'll arrange it no problem.

Also if you attended and haven't registered on WMUG, please do so now as we REALLY want to put some polls up and unfortunately you can only participate in them if you are actually logged in to the site. We want to do this to get an idea of the kind of content you are after over the coming months. As we like to say this is your User Group, we just facilitate.

WMUG Event - 19th of March (London, UK)

The WMUG team have brought together the next event, and it's set for the 19th of March at Cardinal Place, London.

Split in to the usual two session format, with a talk on System Centre Data Protection Manager by Stephen Porter (Storage Partner Manager EMEA – Microsoft Ltd), and then our own David Allen will be giving us the run down on OpMgr R2, with the boldy titled "Operations Manager 2007 R2 – The Future of Systems Management" session. It's going to be a wonderful opportunity to hear about these two System Centre products in some detail.

WMUG Event: 31st October 2008 - Presentation Media now available

We managed to get the Video and Slide-decks from the 31st of October 2008 event on to the WMUG website. The event was presented by none other than Wally Mead, on the subjects of Configuration Manager 2007 Site and Client deployment, and included an overview of Service Pack 1 and Release 2.

The quality of the videos i'm afraid, is pretty awful. Not because Wally was off-key and told loads of bad jokes, well ok there was a few but even a bad joke can be good if the timing is right! No, it was because the video recording at source was of such low quality, that we ended up with quite a lot of the small text on-screen becoming unreadable. These things sometimes happen, but for future recordings we'll try to manage them better.

Now, to compensate for that slighty, we're included the slide-deck that Wally used on the day. I'm hoping that the verbal cues in the videos themselves are enough for you to decipher what he is doing on the Configuration Manager Console or underlying OS, and any textual interaction he performs may be spoken out loud during the recordings.

It shouldn't detract from the content that much, as Wally is full steam as usual, giving out great advise and exploring features of the product with his usual whit and charms, as he progresses through the session topics. A great effort from Wally, who stood up and covered this off for over 5 hours with hardly a pause for refreshments. I personally had a great day being in the audience, listening to the questions, and interacting where I could. And I'd like to personally thank Wally, and those of you that managed to attend. And, finally I hope that those of you who couldn't attend, can benefit from us publishing this content for you all to see.

Just a quick thank you to all that attended, and to those unnamed few that helped organize the Microsoft logistics to get this event up and running. We really hope you got some good value from this event, and if there are any gaps in your knowledge that we can help fill in (scoped to events subject), then drop us a note as we're always happy to help out were we can.

It was a great day, I even learnt a few more tricks from the infamous Wally Mead! Like going commando so to speak, and not using TRACE32! Only Wally could ever pull that one off! Notepad? Come on?!?! Only a true jedi could admin that way!

We over-ran by nearly an hour, but 20+ people stayed to the very end. And, the event was recorded, we're trying to obtain the media as well as find a good home for it to be either streamed or downloaded from. We'll update you all once this has been done.

WMUG (UK) Event: October 31st - TVP\Reading

WMUG, the UK Systems Center User Group is happy to announce that Wally Mead will be attending the next event, which is taking place on the 31st of October 2008, at the Microsoft TVP Campus in Building 3, Chicago.

WMUG Event on the 15th of July 2008

I just cannot believe it was only last Tuesday that we had the WMUG meeting take place. The days since just seem to have slide by, with hardly a chance to come up for air and jump on to the WMUG site.

A big thank you to all that attended. A good time was had by all it seems, with great feedback on what you want to do at these events. We had (for us) an amazing turn out of over 14 people, mostly OpMgr folk i'm afraid, so my OSD demo fell on the wrong crowd :<

We're all looking forward to the next meeting, and we're listening to you all and will try to get a vendor in, as well as organise one of you to attend and speak at the event. Soon we'll be hosting some polls to divine what technologies within the System Center product family you want to see, and we'll try to manage it so that we highlight and make available features of a specific product (OSD, IBCM, DCM et al) for you all to vote on. So essentially your votes will decide what we'll be doing at the next event!

Another thank you to Ed Alrdich, who was in the UK for a week, for dropping in and mingling.

WMUG Event - 12th May - Microsoft Reading Campus

Yesterday evening, the latest WMUG event took place at the Microsoft Reading Campus.

We had a great turnout, lots of questions asked of the MS Speaker (Paul Collins) who overviewed the System Center product range, and Gordon Mckenna who as usual, spent most of the Recap of MMS 2008 allocated time talking about Operations Manager!Unfortunately, David Scambler, who was going to shore up this discrepancy by talking about the best product in the System Center range, Configuration Manager, had to leave urgently for family reasons just before he was expected to get up and present. Oh well, at the next event we'll throttle Gordon back (quota of 2000 words or less? hehe!) and give you the real-deal on Configuration Manager.

We had some great feedback about what kind future content you want to see at the next event. Some even ventured the idea of presenting a subject ;-) You know who you are! This is entirely possible as our goal is to get the community communicating with the community (I like that sound bite!). Soon we'll be putting up Polls on the website, to enable us to provide you with the ability to directly shape the content of the next event. Worth noting, that at our future meetings we'll be aiming to get VM's configured and setup in a Lab area, as well as using them as part of a presentation so that as we discuss things we can demonstrate the point being made or highlighted.The great thing about WMUG is that's it's completely open to influence by the Community, and we were all very impressed with the turnout, the questions asked and the interest you all expressed.Again thanks to all that attended, for taking the time out to turn up, it was a real pleasure to meet up and talk.

Keep an eye peeled, we'll announce our next event very soon and begin polling to shape the content!
