Today we saw a shock announcement, Wally Mead, Mr SMS / ConfigMgr himself is leaving Microsoft. The legend and MVP lead for the Enterprise Client Management MVPs is joining Cireson as Principal Program Manager.

If you missed the announcement

We have all seen him talk at various conferences, user group meetings, webcasts, the list goes on…  famous for his preference for notepad rather than smstrace. And now he is leaving.

We (WMUG) have been very fortunate to have had him speak at of our events several times, the room was always packed and every one always raved about it afterwards.

I do hope, as I am sure we all do, that he continues his community commitment in some way when he joins Cireson, and reading the press announcement it looks like he will.

Rod Trent wrote a very good article about the news and Wally's departure.

Wally Mead, the Face of ConfigMgr, Leaves Microsoft after 22 Years

Not sure what this means for either the ConfigMgr team or the Enterprise Client Management MVPs, who ever takes on Wally's role at Microsoft certainly has large shoes to fill.

Cireson is not a company I had heard a great deal about, until today, but it is certainly one I am going to be watching.

So Wally, best of luck in your new role at Cireson, and I hope our paths cross again one day soon.
